This inquiry was used to collect stories from participants of the first Beyond Patriarchy Collective Learning Journey. A Topic of Inquiry is a core element of Generative Journalism, a possibility-led approach to media which informs this project.
It is possible that the conditions for building a world beyond patriarchy are already here. As awareness of privilege and power grows, we see men coming together to build on the work of visionary feminists by challenging patriarchy and envisioning alternatives to patriarchal masculinity. Instead of reactive or separatist responses to gender-based issues, what if men confronted patriarchy in solidarity with and in service to those most affected? What if, instead of passively upholding a system of domination, men saw patriarchy as their issue, too?
We are engaging participants at the end of a collective learning journey on post-patriarchal futures to explore possibilities for:
- How men can contribute to building post-patriarchal futures.
- Combining personal and systemic approaches to transformation.
- The role that collective learning can play in journeys for dominant groups.
We are inviting responses to questions like:
- Imagine we are living in a future free from patriarchy – what does it look like to you, and what was your contribution to getting us there?
- What is an assumption or belief that you have changed your mind about through this collective learning journey?
- How do you ensure that the work you’re doing is invested in the wider whole?
- What might you still need to let go of for your vision to become a reality?
- What would you like, want or need from your community to move in that direction?
Stories from this inquiry will be published on our blog.
